HISTORY

The Beaches Aquatic Club has a long swimming history and legacy in the Beaches communities. Competitive swimming at the beaches was started when John "Wimpy" Sutton, who was a teacher and swim coach at Fletcher High School partnered with John Lauwart, who was a long time swimming enthusiasts.  They joined together and raised funding to build a 25 yard pool in Atlantic Beach in the early 1960's. That pool was named the Beaches Aquatic Center and was the practice location for the Fletcher Swim Team. From those early beginnings, the Beaches Aquatic Club came into existence. Coach Sutton was an inspirational and encouraging coach who developed and produced top level swimmers who competed at the college level and all the way to the Olympics! BAC was reorganized in 2004 by a former state champion swimmer, Coach Bob Anderson who swam for Coach Sutton. BAC has been on the rise ever since, winning the River City Swim Championship for the first time in 2013, and again in 2014 and in 2015.
